My Utmost for His Highest – Philippians 1:20 -21

We thank God for this year Youth Week. Our theme this year is My Utmost for His Highest. Though this is Youth Week, God has a message for every one of us. In our text, Paul says “My eager desire and hope is that I may never feel ashamed.” As believers, we shall feel disgraced and ashamed if we do not yield to Jesus on the point He has asked us to yield to Him. Paul’s determination is to be his utmost for His highest – In other words, he was determined to be the best that he could be or give the most that he could give to God. Beloved, I do not know what you are determined to do or be for God, but if you desire strongly to give your extreme or best to God, then Christ must be honoured in your life through every situation. Will Christ be honoured in your trials?

To get there is a question of will, not of debate or of reasoning, but a surrender of will, an absolute and irrevocable surrender on that point. An extravagant consideration for ourselves is the thing that keeps us from that decision, though we put it that we are considering others. When we consider what it will cost others if we obey that call of Jesus, we tell God He does not know what our obedience will mean. He does know, and this is why we must shut out every other consideration and keep our lives before God to give our lives totally to God. Are you determined to be absolutely and entirely for Him and for Him alone?

In Vs 21, we see that whether life or death, Paul is determined that nothing shall deter him from doing exactly what God wants. God’s order has to work up to a crisis in our lives because we will not heed the subtle way. He brings us to the place where He asks us to be our utmost for Him and we begin to debate; then He produces a providential crisis where we have to decide – for or against and from that point, the “Great Divide” begins. If the crisis has come to you on any line, surrender your will to Him absolutely and irrevocably. When you give your utmost for His Highest, you are giving up everything.  It means you no longer own yourself, your life, your silver, your gold, your investment, your family, your education, or whatever you think you have, you give up for the service of the master.  However, the starting point of given your utmost for Christ is to give your life, that is, your heart to God (2 Corinthians 8:1-5). This will make it easy for you to give your utmost to the Lord. Are you ready?
